Teach your children to breathe

When we learn to breathe well, we can take advantage of the powerful benefits of breath work. Today we are going to show you some simple exercises to teach your children to breathe and at the same time to help all our patients who use myofunctional orthodontics HBTC-RFA to make rapid progress in their treatment.

The benefits of breathing through your nose are incredible! Here are just a few of them:

  • Reduce stress and promote relaxation.
  • Balance the PH level in the blood.
  • Low blood pressure
  • Release tension in the body.
  • Lower heart rate
  • Raising awareness and self-regulation.
  • Improve respiratory function
  • Combats fatigue and improves energy levels
  • Promoting concentration and cognitive function

Let's start with 3 simple exercises for you to try with your children to help them reap the benefits of breathing right away.

1_ EXHALE DEEPLY

A great exercise to practise exhalation is to blowing up balloons. This is a long, slow exhalation that purges stale air from the lungs. A deep exhalation completes the full circle of breathing, allowing the body to release the negative (physically and energetically).

2_ HORIZONTAL BREATHING

How to breathe horizontally?

  • Put your hands on your belly.
  • Inhale and push your belly into your hands. Make a big belly!
  • Exhale and feel your body tighten like a deflating balloon. Flatten your belly towards your spine.
  • Inhale and expand, exhale and constrict.
  • Repeat 5-10 times.

What are we going to achieve?

  • Horizontal breathing using the diaphragm widens the belly and rib cage on the inhale and narrows it on the exhale.
  • Horizontal breathing calms the nervous system and shuts down the fight or flight mode.

3_ BREATHING 4X4

This last exercise helps to regulate both inhalation and exhalation while expanding the lungs. The steps:

  • Inhale deeply on the count of four (1... 2... 3... 4).
  • Hold your breath for a count of four.
  • Exhale on the count of four.
  • Hold your breath for a count of four.
  • Repeat at least three times and you will notice the difference.

All these exercises will help your children learn to breathe, relax and increase their quality of life.
