Tooth Whitening

Do yellow teeth depress you? Yes, I understand. You love coffee, tea, berries... you just quit smoking? You can't stand the dark pigment or stains left on your teeth!

At MIDSA Dentistry we can talk about professional ways to brighten that smile once again! I promise!

1 HOUR TREATMENT

After an examination and cleaning has been completed at MIDSA DENTISTRY, we will prepare you for a whitening procedure by having you brush your teeth with anti-sensitivity toothpaste for one week prior to the whitening session. This toothpaste will help alleviate any sensitivity, which can be a short-term result of professional whitening.

In the practice A gel of hydrogen peroxide solution shall be carefully and evenly applied to the teeth.

The solution will be left on your teeth for 15 minute intervals along with a whitening gel activation lamp and then rinsed off. Usually, after three 15-minute intervals, your teeth will have lightened three to four levels on the shade guide. A fourth interval may be performed if necessary.

HOME WHITENING TREATMENT

A custom-made splint will be delivered with your whitening kit so that you can use the whitening gel at home for 3 weeks for 10 minutes a day with a mini blue light lamp to activate the gel.

For both modalities you will receive a toothbrushing gel to relieve tooth sensitivity and our White diet to follow if you want to keep your smile White for as long as possible.

Questions about tooth whitening

Getting a professional whitening treatment is one of the best and safest methods of whitening teeth.

Whitened teeth if they have yellowed can become white again. A combination of plaque removal in a dental office and professional teeth whitening treatments can help teeth become white again.

Many tooth whiteners use peroxide-based whitening agents. Over-the-counter whiteners contain between 3 and 6 %peroxide, while professional tooth whiteners in Europe contain between 15 and 35% per cent peroxide.

Professional tooth whitening is performed by a highly trained dental specialist and does not damage enamel. However, people who already have damaged enamel may not be ideal candidates for tooth whitening.

Absolutely not! We are careful to apply the whitening solution to the teeth and not the gums to avoid irritation. We also recommend that you brush your teeth with Sensodyne toothpaste for a week before your whitening appointment.

Teeth whitening appointments usually last about an hour, but the time may depend on the amount of staining and the results you are looking for.

Professional teeth whitening performed in a dental office offers longer lasting results because stronger whitening products are used than over-the-counter whitening products that can be used at home.

To avoid staining your teeth, it is best to brush your teeth twice a day, avoid coffee, tea, soft drinks, wine and other darker foods and drinks, and avoid sugary foods and drinks as much as possible. Regular cleanings can also ensure that your teeth are kept in good condition.
