PERIODONTITIS ASSOCIATED WITH INCREASED RISK OF CANCER

The periodontitis or also called gum disease, is characterised by inflammation and bleeding of the gums. If it is not treated in time, it causes gingival recession and bone loss, which leads to the loss of teeth.

A recent Tufts University studyThe Boston University School of Periodontology reports that patients suffering from periodontitis have a higher rate of cancer riskto a 24%in particular of lung and colorectal. Studies show evidence of, among others, bacteria from the oral cavity present in colorectal cancer tissues, including bacteria from periodontal disease.
