DIABETES AND ORAL HEALTH

Do you have diabetes? If so, you should make sure you take good care of your oral health. Studies show that people with diabetes have a higher incidence of gum disease such as gingivitis (early stage gum disease) and periodontitis (advanced gum disease), with the possibility of being able to losing teeth.

Another problem that can be caused by this disease is dry mouth, i.e. lack of saliva, which can lead to oral candidiasis (fungal infection), ulcers or cavities in these patients.

What should we do if we suffer from this disease?

  • Comprehensive control of blood glucose levels.
  • Brushing teeth 3 times a day, flossing daily.
  • Visit your dentist at least every 6 months.
  • If you suffer from sore gums, bleeding when brushing or flossing, dry mouth or whitish plaque, see your dentist.
  • Smoking can aggravate gum problems.

And remember, prevention is always better. "Prevention is better than cure.
