Did you know that they've discovered more than 10 million bacteria on a toothbrush? That's the same amount you would find in a toilet brush.
Bacteria such as the following can be found on a toothbrush: flu virus, herpes simplex, streptococcus, staphylococcus, E. coli, candida albicans.
That's why it's recommended to change your toothbrush every three months, or if you've been sick. Studies have shown that after three months of regular use, a toothbrush is less effective at removing plaque from teeth and gums compared to a new one. The bristles lose their stiffness and, consequently, their effectiveness in reaching hard-to-reach areas around the teeth.
